Sunsetting Lincoln Continental & MKZ in Mandeville

Although Lincoln has made great strides in regaining its place as a top American luxury automaker, it's the end of the road for the sunsetting Lincoln Continental and Lincoln MKZ near Mandeville LA. Around the beginning of last year, the company confirmed that production of their midsize luxury sedan, the Lincoln MKZ, would end at the close of 2020, signifying the conclusion of a 13-year stretch. As the year progressed, an official statement was released during the summer announcing the discontinuation of the Lincoln Continental after the 2020 model year, as well.

At one time the Lincoln MKZ was the most popular model in the brand's lineup, but with sales declining more and more in each successive year, its popularity became a thing of the past. Add to that the need to remake the Hermosillo, Mexico assembly plant that produced the sedan into a production plant for the Ford Transit van, and it's obvious that the end was near.

The iconic Lincoln Continental would then have been the last sedan remaining in Lincoln's lineup. Revived for the 2017 model year after a 14-year hiatus, it was set up to be the company's flagship, top-of-the-line sedan. The newest generation of the Lincoln Continental returned with a new look that was more stylish and modern than the lineup it was joining at that time. The same grille design was then shared with the rest of the Lincoln models offered, and currently continues to grace the front of each. You'd think that with a nameplate going back to 1939, the Lincoln Continental would've been safe from the barrage of SUVs, but that sadly isn't the case.

It seems a terrible shame to lose the sunsetting Lincoln Continental and Lincoln MKZ near Mandeville LA. However, American buyers apparently aren't as interested in sedans as we once were, as evidenced by the continued rise of SUV and crossover sales and the continued decline of sedans across the board - not just the Lincoln brand. And from a sales point of view, why spend money producing a product that isn't generating sales? So, the luxury Lincoln line of the Lincoln Motor Company will now produce SUVs only, at least for now.

Sunsetting Lincoln Continental and Lincoln MKZ near Mandeville LA: Still Hope

Yet there is hope for those buyers who haven't fallen in love with taller ride heights and still prefer a lower center of gravity in their posh surroundings. Both the Lincoln Continental and the Lincoln MKZ have their places on showroom floors and are waiting for just the right buyers to come along and scoop them up.

One of the promises of a luxury sedan is supreme comfort, and the 2020 Lincoln Continental doesn't disappoint. No matter how long the journey might be, you and up to four passengers will never feel cramped because spaciousness abounds in both front and rear seats, and because it's a car, entering and exiting is a snap for anyone. Once you're inside, you'll enjoy one of the best interiors you'll find, with high quality materials and a long list of standard equipment.

The 2020 Lincoln MKZ seats five and has a lot to like as well, but with a bit smaller dimension both inside and out. With three powerful engine choices and the availability of all-wheel-drive and hybrid options, the plush Lincoln MKZ is an all-around great sedan. Just like its bigger sibling, it boasts expressive styling and a serene, quiet ride.
